Suggestion about guild tags.. make them "unrepeatable" like other names
Ok, I was told by GW support that I should post at a fansite where the Devs may see it, since thier current system does address the issue, so here goes...
I saw something in game tonight that kinda bugged me... another guild running around with my guild's tag.
I know, it sounds kinda petty at first but let me explain...
You can't have two toon with the same name, nor can you have two guilds with the same name...
The only way to know another guilds name is if you ask them. Now their are two guild running around with the same tag, although thier cloaks may be different. Truth is alot of people would forget the cloak but remember the tag.
Now lets say someone from that other guild screws someone over in some way... some trade gone wrong or something... maybe it escalates and more of both guilds get involved somehow... it gets passed around not to deal with people from the guild tagged "X". Someone sees someone from my guild and assumes they are from the "bad" guild. This could cause problems. I don't want to see anyone from my guild get into any kinda of shouting matches or possible violation reports because of something some other guild with the same tag may have done.
So, basically my suggestion is this: Make the tags as unique as toon and guild names (barring of course using upper/lowercase lettering... that is still distinctive enough to differentiate).
Now I know someone may say "why not just change yours?" The answer is simply, "Because we have had this tag since beta and we assumed it wouldn't be copied just like our names couldn't be."
I don't expect everyone to agree with me, but this is a change I would like to see made to prevent confusions and problems.

The only problem is that tags have a much smaller variety of combinations than Guild names, eventually they will run out of normal tags. Lets say for example your guild is the "Warriors of Power"(If this is a real guild it's not affiliated in anyway ) you try using the tag WoP, taken. What else is there to use? WarP? WoPw? WPwr? All the other solution just seem kinda weird.

there can be up to 164,490,480 combination for a guild tags. I don't think the idea of not allowing more than 1 guild have the same tag is impossible.

Let's see...
26 Capital letters...
26 small letters...
That makes 52 letters...
In reapeatable combinations of 2, plus repeatable combinations of 3... plus repeatable combinations of 4...
That is ... 1378, plus 24804, plus 341055
That makes 367237.
Not so many...

Pleaso, NO. Everything but names like £¥€$
I hate when they allow extended characters in names.
Guild wars has the BEST naming system ever. Let's not ruin that.

If they're in your guild, you'll see them as a different color. There may be a large number of combinations available, but there's certainly a finite set that actually make sense or provide meaningful combinations. Why, for example, should a hypothetical guild "Ladies of Doom" have to settle for anything other than LoD? Should they be forced into Xqz becuase everything similar is already taken?
Most emphatically /NOT signed.

I like repeatable guild tags. I'm sorry but one guild or some camper shouldn't get sole access to a common acronym. I can see the arugement for non-repeatable guild names because you need some unique key, but you don't need two of them.

Bringing a 2 year old thread back to life? Priceless!
But, nooo...making guild tags unique at this point would be wrong. I know of 2 "NBK" guilds - Mine, (a pre-existing gaming group) which registered when guild registration was first offered way back in Beta, and another one that has been around for a very long time as well. I think they formed in summer of 2005 - not sure, tho. With the histories of each of these guilds, which one should get the shaft if tags were to be made un-copyable? I say neither.

This wouldn't help my alliance, the entire alliance uses XoO as their guild tag

just because my guild is PIE, do you know how many PIE guilds there are?
Not only that but how many LoD or any other combination. Though I do think its odd a ranger bumped this and not a necro since its been dead so long.
